Investigation of Alternator Vibration (funded by Robert Bosch GmbH)

Partners: Imperial College of London (UK), Robert Bosch GmbH (Germany)

The aim of the project was to explore the limits of sub-structuring analysis when using mixed theoretical and measured data.
A detailed FE model of a simplified alternator was built on a component-by-component basis and the truncation errors due to modal coupling were investigated. Special emphasis was put on joint modelling and an experimental investigation into the effects of friction at joints was conducted. A special modal analysis code was developed for this purpose and then a sweep-sine testing procedure was employed to assess the amount of non-linearity in the structure.
